Day 171 — 2026-10-08(木)

Phase 5 — C2 📊 Presentation ⚙️ Engineering

過去の3回は "alerts our own monitoring did not confirm"。"

1: "One thing live, then questions." / "Watch the top two lines." / "here's what you're waiting for" / "You'll see Meridian go grey. That's not a fault." / "The bar, set before the test, was ..."
2: "Fair challenge." / "less than half of a month's downtime allowance" / "Six runs is a small sample" / "waiting has a cost too"
3: "counts as a fail, same as in the test" / "Monday's go-live waits until we know why"

[Fair challenge.]

Part 1 — live demo narration(231

Thanks, Hannah. One thing live, then questions.

On the left, three signals watching our main region: our cloud provider's status feed, a second vendor called Meridian, and our own monitoring. On the right, the one number that matters: how long until customer traffic moves.

▶ Run 1 starts — replay of INC-088

First run. This is a replay of September 15th, one of the three alerts our own monitoring did not confirm. Watch the top two lines. The provider says down. Our own monitoring says up. They disagree, so nothing moves. On September 15th, we moved traffic. Today, we don't.

▶ Run 2 starts — main region cut off (≈60 s wait)

Second run. Now a real outage. We're cutting off the main region, in a test environment, with synthetic traffic. This part takes about a minute, so here's what you're waiting for. Our own monitoring needs two failed checks in a row, thirty seconds apart. One failed check is noise. Two is an outage.

⚪ Meridian panel turns grey (expected)

You'll see Meridian go grey. That's not a fault. Meridian reports every couple of minutes, so we don't wait for it. It only votes when the other two disagree.

✅ FAILOVER · 63 s

There. Both say down, and traffic moved in sixty-three seconds.

Tuesday's re-test, six outages: median sixty-one seconds, worst one minute fifty-two. The old system did fifty-two, so we paid about nine seconds to stop the unnecessary switches. The bar, set before the test, was seventy-five seconds and two minutes. We met both. We go live on Monday.

Part 2 — Q&A(94語)
Derek LauQ&A
... Sounds like luck to me. And with Black Friday two weeks out, why not just wait until December?
You (Priya Anand)answer
Fair challenge. Eight seconds is the margin on our own cap, not on our promise to customers: even the worst run used less than half of a month's downtime allowance. Six runs is a small sample, so we'll report every real event through December in the January update. And waiting has a cost too. The old system is the one that moved traffic three times this year on alerts we couldn't confirm. If the new one misbehaves, Tomás, who runs Black Friday on-call, can switch back to the old one in under five minutes.
Part 3 — if the demo fails(50語)
You (Priya Anand)contingency
That's past two minutes, so on this stage it counts as a fail, same as in the test. I won't rerun it until it works. Aiko will read the logs today, Monday's go-live waits until we know why, and Hannah will tell all of you what we find on Friday.

3
走行1は「見る場所 → 結果 → 意味」 — "Watch the top two lines." 対句 "On September 15th, we moved traffic. Today, we don't."
4
法務との約束は投資家の前でも同じ — 過去の3回は "alerts our own monitoring did not confirm"。
7
"There."
8
代償を自分から — "we paid about nine seconds ..."
9
基準を挿入句で — "The bar, set before the test," 強調せずに後付けでないと伝える。結論は "We go live on Monday."
It's not luck" と反論から入らない。
11
弱点を相手より先に — "Six runs is a small sample" は Derek がまだ言っていない批判。
Tomás ... can switch back ... in under five minutes" は抽象的な "rollback plan" より信頼される。
13
I won't rerun it until it works."

E. "It's not luck — we passed all three."
F. "You're right, we should consider waiting."

(3) "false"

Basic
"This is our new system. Now I will show a demo. Please wait one minute. It worked. The result was 61 seconds. We will release it on Monday."
↓
B2
"Let me show you how the new system works. First, a replay of September 15th — as you can see, it doesn't switch. Next, a real outage. This will take about a minute. ... OK, it switched in 63 seconds."
↓
C1
"Two runs, then questions. Watch the top two lines: the provider says down, we say up, so nothing moves. Now a real outage. It takes about a minute because we want two failed checks in a row; one is noise. There — sixty-three seconds. It's nine seconds slower than the old system, and that's the price of not switching on alerts we can't confirm."
"Eight seconds is thin if you measure it against our own cap, and I'd rather you heard that from me. Measure it against what we owe customers and the worst run used under half the month. What I can't give you yet is a big enough sample — that's what December is for."
弱点を自分から言う理由を一言で("I'd rather you heard that from me")、不確かさを「これから測る期間」に置き換える
  • "If this goes sideways, here's what happens next." —
  • "That's the price of ..."
  • "Nothing up my sleeve: same bar, same rules, live." — 「

  • 発展: Ben Whitaker が "What if the provider doesn't say anything at all during a real outage?"
