You're at the reception dinner for a college friend's wedding. You're seated at a table with three people you've never met before — they're friends of the bride, and the only thing connecting you is the couple getting married. After the toasts wind down, the table starts doing quick introductions.
Turn 1 briefly honors the original question before pivoting, so the transition doesn't feel abrupt, and it deliberately picks a story that needs no prior knowledge of you to land — that matters when the audience is three total strangers rather than people who already share context. Turn 2 delivers the punchline with a specific, visual detail ("hop on my bike and go intercept it") rather than dwelling on how stressed or silly you felt, which keeps it funny instead of turning into a complaint. Turn 3 is the important one with strangers specifically: instead of letting your story be the whole interaction, you immediately hand the floor to Priya's reaction and ask a genuine follow-up question, which turns a solo anecdote into a shared "we've all been there" moment — the fastest way to build warmth with people you've just met.
