Student: Hi. I'm a new student. I'd like to register for a library card, please.
Librarian: Of course! Can I start with your full name?
Student: Sure. It's Daniel Thornton. That's D-A-N-I-E-L, Thornton, T-H-O-R-N-T-O-N.
Librarian: Great, thank you. And what's your student ID number?
Student: It's 2026-48391.
Librarian: Perfect. Now, which faculty are you in?
Student: I'm in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
Librarian: And do you have a local address here in the city?
Student: Yes. I'm staying at 14 Maple Street. The postcode is BN4 7QR.
Librarian: Now, as a standard member, you can borrow up to eight books at a time.
Student: How long can I keep them?
Librarian: Three weeks for regular books. But for reference books and journals, they must be used in the library only. You can renew a book twice before you must return it. If a book is overdue, there's a fine of 20 pence per day.
Student: Is there anything else I should be aware of?
Librarian: The library is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturdays, we close at 6 p.m. We're closed on Sundays. We have a quiet study zone on the third floor. Group study rooms are on the second floor, and you need to book them at least 24 hours in advance.
Student: Can I print and scan here too?
Librarian: Absolutely. It costs 5 pence per page for black-and-white and 15 pence per page for colour printing. The café is on the ground floor. It's open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
