The question of whether television has a detrimental impact on children is a matter of ongoing debate. While some argue that it can be an educational tool, I firmly believe that, on balance, television exposure has more negative consequences than positive ones, particularly in terms of academic performance and behavioural development.

One of the most significant concerns is that excessive television viewing displaces time that children could otherwise spend on productive activities such as studying, reading, or physical exercise. When children spend several hours each day watching television, their ability to concentrate on academic tasks diminishes. Furthermore, many programmes feature violent or antisocial behaviour, and research suggests that prolonged exposure to such content can foster aggression in young viewers. As a consequence, not only do children's grades tend to suffer, but their social development may also be negatively affected.
