モデル解答(Band 7.5〜8.0相当)
Modern technology has fundamentally changed the nature of human communication, enabling instant connection across vast distances. While some contend that developments such as smartphones and social media have eroded the depth of interpersonal relationships, I partially agree with this view, as the impact of technology depends significantly on how it is used.
On the one hand, the proliferation of social media platforms has undeniably encouraged shallow interaction at the expense of meaningful communication. Many users engage primarily through 'likes,' brief comments, and curated posts rather than engaging in genuine dialogue. Furthermore, the constant distraction of smartphones during face-to-face meetings diminishes the quality of in-person conversations, preventing the emotional depth necessary for lasting bonds.
On the other hand, technology has also provided powerful tools for maintaining and deepening relationships across geographic boundaries. Video calling platforms such as Zoom and FaceTime allow families and friends separated by thousands of kilometres to share experiences in real time. Moreover, online communities centred around shared interests often lead to genuine, long-term friendships that transition into the real world.
In conclusion, while modern technology does present obstacles to forming deep relationships — particularly through fostering superficial online habits — it also offers unprecedented opportunities for connection. The key lies not in the technology itself, but in the intentional and mindful way in which individuals choose to engage with it.
