モデル解答(Band 7.5〜8.0相当)

Part 1 モデル回答

Q1. Where do you live now?
"I currently live in Tokyo, which is the capital of Japan. It's a massive city with a population of around 14 million people. Honestly, I love the energy and convenience here, though it can feel a bit overwhelming at times."
Q2. Do you like the area you live in?
"Yes, for the most part I do. My neighbourhood has excellent transport links, so getting around is really easy. That said, the one downside is that it's quite crowded, especially during rush hour, which I find a little stressful."
Q3. What would you change?
"If I could change one thing, I'd add more green spaces — like parks or community gardens. Right now there's very little nature around where I live, and I think access to greenery can do wonders for mental well-being."
Q4. Have you always lived in the same place?
"Not at all, actually. I grew up in a smaller city in the countryside, and I only moved to Tokyo when I started working. The contrast was quite striking — the pace of life in my hometown was so much more relaxed."

Part 2 モデルスピーチ

Theme: Matsumoto, Nagano — my hometown | 推定190語 / 約1分45秒

MODEL ANSWER — Band 7.5〜8.0 | Part 2 Speech
Where & When

The place I'd like to talk about is my hometown of Matsumoto, a small city in Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by the Japanese Alps. I grew up there and lived there until I was around 22, before moving to Tokyo for work.
What I liked — Nature

What I particularly loved about Matsumoto was the natural environment. The mountains were visible from virtually everywhere, and in autumn, the autumn foliage was absolutely breathtaking. I used to go cycling along the riverside after school, which is something I genuinely miss now.
What I liked — Community

Another thing I valued was the sense of community. Because the city was relatively small, people seemed to know each other, and there was always a strong local pride — especially around traditional festivals.
Why memories

Even now, I look back on that time fondly. I think the main reason is that life there felt simpler and less stressful. In Tokyo, everything moves at a relentless pace, whereas in Matsumoto, you had time to breathe and appreciate the little things.
Rounding off

Overall, Matsumoto holds a very special place in my heart, and I do sometimes wonder whether I'll return there one day.

Part 3 モデル回答

"In my opinion, one of the main reasons is that big cities offer significantly more career opportunities. Most large companies and industries are concentrated in urban centres, so for young people entering the workforce, moving to a city is often a practical necessity rather than a personal preference. For instance, in Japan, the majority of technology and finance jobs are based in Tokyo, which naturally draws talent from all over the country. It's also worth noting that cities tend to offer better educational institutions and social infrastructure, which makes them even more attractive to younger generations."
"There are several, but I'd say the most significant are the high cost of living and the sheer stress of daily life. Rent in major cities can be astronomical — in Tokyo or London, for example, a modest apartment can cost a substantial portion of one's monthly salary. On top of that, long commutes and crowded environments contribute to chronic fatigue and mental health issues. Many urban dwellers find it difficult to build meaningful community connections, which can lead to feelings of isolation despite being surrounded by millions of people."
"I think there's already a gradual trend in that direction, largely accelerated by the rise of remote work. The pandemic proved that many jobs can be performed from anywhere, which has made rural living a viable option for the first time for many professionals. That said, I don't think we'll see a mass exodus from cities anytime soon, because urban areas still hold unique advantages in terms of entertainment, social diversity, and cultural experiences. It's more likely that we'll see a hybrid pattern — people splitting time between cities and the countryside."
"I believe the most impactful steps would be improving digital infrastructure and healthcare access. Many rural areas still struggle with slow internet connectivity, which is a dealbreaker for remote workers. If the government invested in high-speed broadband across the country, it would make working from rural areas far more practical. Additionally, incentivising businesses to relocate — through tax breaks or subsidies — could create local jobs and reduce the need to migrate to cities."
