Day 052 — Listening: 大学図書館オリエンテーション（Section 2）

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Northfield University Library. My name is Sarah Chen, and I'll be your guide for today's orientation. Whether you're a first-year student or a returning student who hasn't visited us recently, I think you'll find some useful information here.

Let me start with our opening hours. The main library is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. During the examination period in December and May, we extend our hours to midnight on weekdays to support your study needs. Please note, however, that the Postgraduate Reading Room on the third floor operates on different hours — it opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. every day including weekends.

Now, let's talk about borrowing limits. Undergraduate students can borrow up to 10 items at one time, while postgraduate students have an extended limit of 20 items. All items must be returned within three weeks, except for high-demand titles which are limited to one week. If you need more time, you can renew items online up to three times before they must be returned physically.

One of our most popular services is the 24-hour digital library portal. You can access over 40,000 journals and 300,000 e-books through this portal using your student ID and password. I'd especially recommend the JSTOR and ProQuest databases for academic research — they're both accessible off-campus as well.

We also offer a drop-in IT support desk located on the ground floor near the main entrance. Staff are available there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays to help with printing, scanning, and accessing digital resources.

For students who need a quiet environment, we have silent study zones on floors 2 and 3. Mobile phones must be switched to silent mode, and group discussions are not permitted in these areas. If you need to collaborate with classmates, the group study rooms on the first floor can be booked up to one week in advance through our website. We have 8 rooms in total, each accommodating between 4 and 8 students.

Finally, a word about our specialist collections. The Science and Engineering Collection is housed in the East Wing on the second floor, while Humanities and Social Sciences materials are in the West Wing. The Special Collections archive — which contains rare manuscripts and historical documents — is on the fourth floor and requires a separate reader's pass, available from the main information desk.
