強調構文とは、1つの平叙文を「It is/was ... that ...」や「What ... is ...」
|---|---|---|
| ① It-cleft(基本) | It is/was + 強調要素 + that/who + 残りの節 | 主語・目的語・副詞句などを強調 |
| ② It-cleft(否定対比) | It is/was not + A + but + B + that ...
| ③ Wh-cleft(pseudo-cleft) | What + 主語 + 動詞 + is/was + 強調要素 | 「〜が必要とするものは…
| ④ Reverse Wh-cleft | 強調要素 + is/was + what + 主語 + 動詞 | Wh-cleftの語順を逆にした形 |
| ⑤ All-cleft | All + (that) + 主語 + 動詞 + is/was + 強調要素 | 「〜だけが…
日本人学習者が最も間違えやすいのは、It-cleftのIt is/wasを強調要素の数に一致させてしまうこと(例: ×"It are the platforms that...") が正しく、All what...

It is not A but B that の型にそのまま流し込む。 Q5は"only"が持つ「それだけ」というニュアンスをAll that ... is ...
Q7は "What most readers wants" のwhat節内部の動詞が、その節の主語(readers=複数)と一致していない誤り。 Q10は All-cleftで "what" を使っているが、All-cleftは "All that ..."
Q13は「All that ... is ...」 Q14は「ソーシャルメディアだけではなく複合要因が」という否定対比のIt-cleftなので not("It was not X but Y that..."

この操作を意識できると、Writing Task 2のBody paragraphで「本当の原因は〜だ」「必要なのは〜だけだ」という主張を際立たせる際に自然に応用できる(例: "What governments need to prioritise is not economic growth alone but environmental sustainability.")。
