curtailimpetusdetrimentalsusceptible
commensuratecontingentattenuatepaucity

Band 7
| Band | Lexical Resource
Band 7の核は「連語の自覚(awareness of style and collocation)」

- Q2 "have little ___ to develop" →
- Q3 "rarely ___ with the cost" → with を取る形容詞
- Q4 "a ___ of rapid diagnostic tests" → a + 名詞 + of で「不足」
... has allowed resistant strains of bacteria to proliferate at an alarming rate. Yet pharmaceutical companies have little impetus to develop new drugs, since the revenue ... is rarely commensurate with the cost of bringing it to market. Compounding the problem is a paucity of rapid diagnostic tests ... Several governments have therefore moved to curtail over-the-counter sales of antibiotics ...
little + 不可算名詞 + to do"。
a ___ of" の型。
|---|---|---|
| 11 | susceptible for bacterial infections | susceptible to bacterial infections |
| 12 | contingent to the results | contingent on / upon the results |
| 13 | predicated in the assumption | predicated on / upon the assumption |
| 14 | endemic of parts of Eastern Europe | endemic in parts of Eastern Europe("endemic to" も可) |
| 15 | precipitated to a sharp fall | precipitated a sharp fall(他動詞。または led to a sharp fall) |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | conducive to | 形容詞 + to。"
prevalent in + 地域 |
commensurate with / contingent on / predicated on
Any tax on antibiotic use must be commensurate with the harm it seeks to prevent.(釣り合い)
The success of such a ban is contingent on effective enforcement.(条件)
This argument is predicated on the assumption that consumers act rationally.(相手の前提を指摘する反論)
The success of such a ban is contingent on effective enforcement.(条件)
This argument is predicated on the assumption that consumers act rationally.(相手の前提を指摘する反論)
precipitate to" は "lead to" との混同から来る誤りで、正しくは "led to a sharp fall" か "precipitated a sharp fall" のどちらかです。
"The efficiency of the vaccine"
- 発音・強勢: paucity(ポー・シティ)、efficacy(エ・フィ・カ・シィ、第1音節強勢)など。今回は筆記のみ、Speaking(金曜)で扱う
