Day 095 — Listening: Greenwood Community Arts Centre — Volunteer Induction Tour

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Greenwood Community Arts Centre. Before we get started with today's training session, I'd like to give you a quick tour of the building so that you know where everything is, since you'll all be helping out here once we officially reopen after the refurbishment.

So, as you come in through the main entrance on Elm Street, you'll notice the reception and ticket desk straight ahead — that's the first stop for all visitors, and it's marked as Area A on your floor plan. If you turn and look to your right as you walk in, you'll see the cloakroom, where visitors can leave coats, umbrellas and larger bags before heading further into the building.

Once you continue down the main corridor, on the left-hand side you'll come across our temporary exhibition gallery. This space changes every couple of months; next month it will be hosting a photography exhibition. Directly opposite, on the right, is a room that used to be used for storage but has now been converted into our new ceramics workshop, complete with two pottery wheels and a small kiln.

Right at the far end of the corridor, just before you reach the garden exit, you'll find two more spaces. On the left is the members' café, which will serve light snacks and drinks from 10am to 4pm daily. On the right is a small performance space we'll be using mainly for poetry readings and short musical recitals — it seats about thirty people.

Now, a few important details for your induction pack. The centre will officially reopen on the 3rd of September, and general admission will be free, though the photography exhibition will carry a small entry charge of four pounds for non-members — members get in free, of course.

All volunteers need to complete a short safeguarding course before their first shift. We run these sessions every Tuesday evening at six o'clock, so please make sure you sign up for one before you start.

Please also remember that photography by visitors is only permitted in the main corridor and the café; it isn't allowed inside the exhibition gallery itself, mainly for copyright reasons connected with the artists' work.

Finally, on membership: our membership cards give holders unlimited free entry to all exhibitions, along with a ten percent discount at the café. We don't currently offer free parking or discounts on centre merchandise, so please don't promise those to visitors by mistake — it's a common question we get, so just be ready for it.
