|---|---|---|
| Task Response | TR |
| Coherence & Cohesion | CC |
| Lexical Resource | LR |
| Grammatical Range & Accuracy | GRA |

[Introduction]
"Whether teenagers should be required to perform unpaid community work as part of their schooling, or left free to organise their own free time, is a matter of ongoing debate. While both positions have merit, I believe that a moderate, structured form of compulsory service produces the greater overall benefit."
[Conclusion]
Introduction
Whether teenagers should be required to perform unpaid community work as part of their schooling, or left free to organise their own free time, is a matter of ongoing debate. While both positions have merit, I believe that a moderate, structured form of compulsory service produces the greater overall benefit.
Body 1 — View 1
Advocates of mandatory service argue that it instils a sense of civic responsibility that might otherwise never develop. This is largely because many adolescents, left entirely to their own devices, gravitate toward passive entertainment such as social media and gaming rather than activities that benefit their wider community. This pattern is well illustrated by countries such as Canada, where a minimum number of volunteer hours is required for high school graduation; students there report a measurably stronger sense of connection to local charities than their counterparts in jurisdictions without such requirements. Mandatory service, in other words, can compensate for a gap that voluntary participation alone often fails to close.
Body 2 — View 2 + Opinion
This gap, however, does not mean that compulsion is without cost. Opponents contend that forcing students into service they did not choose can breed resentment rather than genuine altruism, turning what should be a meaningful experience into a box-ticking exercise. Furthermore, free time plays an irreplaceable role in adolescent development, allowing students to pursue hobbies, part-time work, or simply rest, activities that rigid compulsory schemes inevitably crowd out. For this reason, I would argue that community service works best when it is compulsory in principle but flexible in practice, allowing students some genuine choice over which cause they support.
Conclusion
In conclusion, although unstructured free time undoubtedly serves an important developmental purpose, I maintain that a carefully designed, choice-based community service requirement strikes the best balance between fostering civic engagement and respecting students' autonomy.
Body 1でカナダの具体例を挙げ、一般論だけで終わらせていない点がBand 7.0 descriptorの「ideas are relevant, well extended and supported」に対応する。
Body 1末尾「a gap that voluntary participation alone often fails to close」→ Body 2冒頭「This gap, however」で受け継ぎ、Theme-Rheme progressionで段落を接続詞なしに橋渡ししている。
Canada, where a minimum number of volunteer hours is required..."
- 分詞構文: "allowing students some genuine choice over which cause they support"
- 譲歩構文: "While both positions have merit, I believe that..."
