Day114(テーマ#1: Process Diagram)・Day121(テーマ#3: Mixed Graph)・Day128(テーマ#2: Map)と、Phase 3 Writing Task 1では3種類のタスク形式を扱ってきました。
Overview 5
Car use rose from 45% to 52%..." | "Car use rose before falling back" |
Lexical Resource (LR): 傾向を表す語彙(fluctuate, overtake, converge, the most striking featureなど)を数値に頼らず使えているか
Grammatical Range (GRA): 比較級・最上級・対比構文(whereas, while, in contrast to)を誤りなく使えているか
Writing Task 1 Band Descriptor
| Band | Task Achievement | Lexical Resource | Grammatical Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Band 9.0 | Overview
| Band 8.0 | Overview
| Band 7.0 | Overview
The graph below shows the percentage of commuters using three different modes of transport (car, bicycle, and public transport) to travel to work in a European city between 1990 and 2020.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.

- "by contrast"や"having been the least popular option"のような表現で、Overviewで示した逆転現象を数値とともに裏付ける
Intro The graph illustrates changes in the percentage of commuters using three modes of transport — car, bicycle, and public transport — in a European city between 1990 and 2020.
Overview Overall, the most striking feature was that bicycle use, initially the least common option, eventually overtook both car use and public transport to become the dominant mode of commuting. Car use rose before falling sharply to its lowest level, while public transport declined steadily throughout the period.
Body 1 Car use started at 45% in 1990 and climbed to a peak of 52% in 2000, before falling back to 48% in 2010 and dropping further to just 35% by 2020. Public transport, in contrast, fell consistently across all four years, from 40% in 1990 to only 27% in 2020, without any period of growth.
Body 2 Bicycle use followed a very different trajectory. Having accounted for only 15% of commuters in 1990 and dipping slightly to 12% in 2000, it then rose sharply to 20% in 2010 and surged to 38% by 2020. As a result, cycling ended the period as the most popular commuting method, ahead of both car use and public transport.
Intro The graph illustrates changes in the percentage of commuters using three modes of transport — car, bicycle, and public transport — in a European city between 1990 and 2020.
Overview Overall, the most striking feature was that bicycle use, initially the least common option, eventually overtook both car use and public transport to become the dominant mode of commuting by the end of the period. Car use rose before falling sharply to its lowest level, whereas public transport declined steadily throughout, without any period of recovery.
Body 1 Car use started at 45% of commuters in 1990 and climbed to a peak of 52% in 2000, before falling back to 48% in 2010 and dropping further, to just 35%, by 2020. Public transport followed a markedly different pattern, falling consistently across all four years from 40% in 1990 to only 27% in 2020, with no interruption to its downward trend.
Body 2 Bicycle use, by contrast, followed a very different trajectory. Having accounted for a mere 15% of commuters in 1990 and dipping slightly to 12% in 2000, it then rose sharply to 20% in 2010 and surged to 38% by 2020. As a result, cycling ended the period as the single most popular commuting method, ahead of both car use and public transport, whose combined share had been overwhelmingly dominant thirty years earlier.

"Overall, the most striking feature was that..."
- the most striking feature was that...
- without any period of recovery / interruption — 「一貫して」という傾向を数値なしで強調する言い回し
- "...it then rose sharply to 20% in 2010 and surged to 38% by 2020" — 時制と前置詞(to/by)を正確に使い分けた数値描写
- "Having accounted for a mere 15% of commuters in 1990..."
- "Public transport, in contrast, fell consistently..." —
|---|---|---|
| Overviewに具体的な数値を書いてしまう("Car use rose from 45% to 52%...")
