Day 137 — Listening: Booking a Weekend Pottery Workshop — Section 1（2周目）

Callum: Good morning, Grangewood Leisure and Learning Centre, Callum speaking. How can I help?

Isabelle: Oh, hi there. I'm calling about the pottery workshop — the one with the wheel-throwing? I saw it advertised on your noticeboard.

Callum: Ah yes, "Introduction to Wheel-Throwing." Are you looking to book a place on that one?

Isabelle: Yes please, if there's still room.

Callum: There is, plenty of space actually. Can I take your name first?

Isabelle: It's Isabelle — Isabelle Thornbury.

Callum: Could you spell the surname for me?

Isabelle: Sure — T, H, O, R, N, B, U, R, Y.

Callum: T-H-O-R-N-B-U-R-Y. Lovely, thank you. Right, now this course actually runs at two levels — there's one for people with some throwing experience already, that's code CE207, and then there's the one most people start with, which is CE102. Given you mentioned this is your first time near a wheel, I'd put you down for the beginners' one.

Isabelle: Yes, that's definitely me — first time.

Callum: CE102 it is, then. Now, dates — it was down to start on the 5th of September, but we've actually had to push everything back a week, because the kiln needs recalibrating and the engineer can't come out until later in the month. So it'll now begin on the 12th instead.

Isabelle: Oh, that's actually better for me, I'm away that first weekend anyway.

Callum: Good timing, then! Now, for the fee — the standard rate for the full weekend is a hundred and ten pounds. There is a reduced rate, eighty-five pounds, but that's for students and over-65s, and you'd need to bring some ID showing your status along on the first morning — we can't apply it without seeing that in person.

Isabelle: I am a student, and I've got my university card with me most days, so that should be fine.

Callum: Great, I'll note the concession rate then, eighty-five pounds, just remember that card on the day. Now, could I take a contact number?

Isabelle: Yes, it's oh-seven-eight-eight-one — no, hang on, that's my old one — it's oh-seven-nine-nine-one, two-two-four-five-one-six.

Callum: 07991 224516 — got that. Now, in terms of what to bring — clay and an apron are both provided, so you don't need to worry about those, and we've got a full toolkit for beginners too. The one thing I'd flag is footwear — the glazing area can get quite messy, and open shoes aren't really practical near the kiln room for safety reasons, so closed-toe shoes are best, and old clothes wouldn't hurt either.

Isabelle: Right, no sandals, got it.

Callum: Exactly. The workshop's held in Studio C, which is on the ground floor — you'll come in through the side door near the car park rather than the main entrance, it's quicker from there. Speaking of which, there isn't a car park attached to the centre itself, so most people use the pay-and-display bays on Foundry Lane, just round the corner.

Isabelle: Okay, noted.

Callum: Now, the fee covers up to two fired pieces — if you make more than that and want them fired, it's an extra four pounds per piece, payable on collection. And on the first morning, rather than a printed pack, everything's emailed out in advance, so do check your inbox — what you'll get on arrival is just a name badge and a key for a locker to leave your things in.

Isabelle: Ah, good, one less thing to carry.

Callum: One last thing — there's a short safety talk before the wheels start turning, so we'd ask everyone to get there about ten minutes early on the Saturday rather than right on the hour.
