(Cleft Sentences) | Phase 3 | It/Whatは形式的な骨組み、動詞の一致は意味上の主語を見極める |

Listening: Section 1
Day 137 復習Dana: Good afternoon, Riverside Arts Centre, this is Dana speaking.
Tom: Hi, I'd like to ask about the weekend photography workshop advertised online.
Dana: Sure — that's "Street Photography Basics." Would you like to enrol?
Tom: Yes, please. I'm Tom Whitfield.
Dana: Lovely. Now, this runs across two Saturdays, starting the 14th — actually, hold on, that's the print workshop I'm thinking of. The photography one starts the 21st.
Tom: Okay, the 21st, got it.
Dana: The standard fee is sixty pounds, though there's a reduced rate of forty-five pounds — that's only available if you're a current student and you book at least a week in advance. Since today's the 14th, you'd just make that cutoff.
Tom: I am a student, so that works out well.
Dana: Perfect, I'll note the concession rate then. Now, as for equipment, you don't need your own camera — we provide those — but do bring something to take notes with, since we won't be handing out any printed materials.
Tom: A notebook, sure.
Dana: Exactly. And one more thing — the workshop's held in the East Wing, not the main building, so allow a few extra minutes to find it on your first visit.
B. The East Wing
C. The room used for the print workshop
Day 134 復習"Effective feedback improves student motivation."
"What most students needs is regular, constructive feedback."
"All ______ struggling students really need is more individualised attention."
Reading: Matching Information(2問)
Day 133 復習Paragraph 1. Large-scale battery storage remains expensive to install, and the upfront capital cost of grid-scale lithium-ion systems is still one of the biggest obstacles to wider adoption. While prices have fallen substantially over the past decade, utilities in many regions still find it cheaper, in the short term, to rely on gas-fired plants to cover demand peaks than to invest in battery infrastructure.
Paragraph 2. Beyond cost, questions remain about the environmental footprint of battery production itself. Mining the lithium, cobalt and nickel used in most current battery chemistries can cause significant local environmental damage, and manufacturing a single large battery pack generates a substantial amount of embedded carbon emissions before it ever stores a single unit of clean energy.
Writing Task 2: Band Descriptor
Day 132 復習| Band | TR(要約) | GRA(要約) |
|---|---|---|
Writing Task 1: Overview
(Nuclear) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1990 | 60% | 5% | 20% |
| 2005 | 45% | 15% | 25% |
| 2020 | 15% | 45% | 20% |
Part A(Section 1
starting the 14th — actually, hold on, that's the print workshop I'm thinking of. The photography one starts the 21st."
- Q3は設問語(printed materials)がそのまま出てこず、"bring something to take notes with" という言い換えから答えを拾う
Part B(強調構文)
Q5: "It is effective feedback that improves student motivation." Q7: All-cleftは"All that..."
Part C(Matching Information)
Part D(Band Descriptor
Part E(Overview)
Part F(譲歩構文)
"While it is true that... it is also the case that..."
|---|---|---|
| It is/was + 強調要素 + that + 節 | [強調] | "It is effective feedback that improves student motivation."(学生の意欲を高めるのはまさに効果的なフィードバックだ) |
| All that + S + V + is/was + 強調要素 | [強調] | "All that struggling students really need is more individualised attention."(苦戦している生徒に本当に必要なのは、より個別化された配慮だけだ) |
| the most striking feature was that...
| While it is true that X, it is also the case that Y | [譲歩] | Xを認めつつYで自分の立場を通す |
- Part A: 21st(訂正後)→ £45(学生かつ1週間前予約の条件クリア)→ something to write with/a notebook → East Wing(B)。
- Part F: "While it is true that learning a foreign language broadens students' opportunities, it is also the case that mandatory language classes can demotivate students who have no interest in it."
- Part D リライト骨格 → "While free time undoubtedly matters for students, mandatory volunteer work does not necessarily eliminate that free time entirely. Many schools that require a modest number of service hours per year still leave students with ample time for hobbies..."
- Part E モデル骨格 → "Overall, the most striking feature was that coal, initially the dominant energy source, was eventually overtaken by renewables, which became the leading source by the end of the period. Nuclear power's share, by contrast, remained comparatively stable throughout."
- Part F モデル骨格 → "I'd say yes, on balance. While it is true that mandatory language classes can feel like a burden to some students, it is also the case that early exposure gives students options they wouldn't otherwise have. Granted, motivation matters more than compulsion. Nevertheless, without some requirement, many students would never try at all."
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A | 21(21st / the 21st of the month) | "The photography one starts the 21st."(訂正後の日付) |
| 3 | A | take notes with(a notebook) | "bring something to take notes with" |
| 4 | A | B | "the workshop's held in the East Wing, not the main building" |
| 5 | B | "It is effective feedback that improves student motivation." | It-cleft
| 6 | B | "What most students need is regular, constructive feedback."
| 7 | B | that | All-cleftは"All that..."
| 8 | C | Paragraph 1 | "utilities... find it cheaper... to rely on gas-fired plants... than to invest in battery infrastructure" |
| 9 | C | Paragraph 2 | "Mining the lithium, cobalt and nickel... can cause significant local environmental damage" |
"While it is true that free time allows students to relax and pursue their own interests, this does not mean that volunteer work and free time are mutually exclusive. Many schools that require a modest number of service hours per year still leave students with ample time for hobbies, suggesting that a moderate compulsory requirement need not come at the expense of personal time."
"Overall, the most striking feature was that coal, initially by far the dominant energy source, was eventually overtaken by renewables, which became the leading source of electricity generation by the end of the period. Nuclear power's contribution, by contrast, remained comparatively stable throughout, neither rising nor falling to the same extent as the other two sources."
"I'd say yes, on balance. While it is true that mandatory language classes can feel like a burden to students who have no particular interest in them, it is also the case that early exposure gives young people options — both academic and professional — that they simply wouldn't have otherwise. Granted, motivation arguably matters more than compulsion when it comes to actually mastering a language. Nevertheless, without some kind of requirement, I suspect many students would never give it a genuine try in the first place."

| Part F で "While it is true traditions matter, but..."
