Coherence & Cohesion (CC): Body
Lexical Resource (LR): "despite attracting...", "notwithstanding fewer visitors", "when measured by..."
Writing Task 1 Band Descriptor
| Band | Task Achievement | Lexical Resource | Grammatical Range |
|---|---|---|---|
The bar chart below shows the number of visitors to four types of museums in a country in 2023. The table shows the average length of a visit (in minutes) at each museum type, broken down by three age groups.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
| 博物館 | Under 25 | 25–59 | 60+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Art | 45 | 70 | 95 |
| Science | 80 | 65 | 50 |
| History | 40 | 55 | 75 |
| Natural History | 60 | 50 | 45 |
Overviewで「橋渡しの発見」を1文で示す: "Although [施設A] attracted the most visitors overall, its appeal to [年齢層] was notably weaker than that of [施設B]..."
Body内では、来館者数(グラフ1)と滞在時間(表1)を同じ文の中で対比させる: "Despite ranking second in overall visitor numbers, the Science Museum recorded the longest visit duration of any institution among under-25s, at 80 minutes."

- グラフ1(量の軸): Art(850)> Science(620)> History(540)> Natural History(390)という来館者数の序列
Intro The bar chart shows the number of visitors to four types of museums in a country in 2023, while the table shows the average length of a visit at each museum, broken down by three age groups.
Overview Overall, the Art Museum was the most visited of the four venues, followed by the Science Museum, and visit duration at these two museums followed opposite patterns across age groups: it increased with age at the Art Museum but decreased with age at the Science Museum. Notably, despite ranking only second in overall visitor numbers, the Science Museum recorded the longest average visit of any museum among under-25s, indicating that popularity and engagement with younger visitors did not always align.
Body 1 The Art Museum attracted 850,000 visitors, more than any other venue, and average visit duration there rose steadily with age, from 45 minutes among under-25s to 95 minutes among those aged 60 and over. The Science Museum, in contrast, drew 620,000 visitors but showed a reverse pattern: visit duration fell from 80 minutes among under-25s to just 50 minutes among the oldest group.
Body 2 The History Museum, with 540,000 visitors, followed a broadly similar age pattern to the Art Museum, with the over-60s recording the longest average visit, at 75 minutes. The Natural History Museum was the least visited, at 390,000, and its age pattern echoed that of the Science Museum, with under-25s recording the longest visit, at 60 minutes.

The Natural History Museum was the least visited, at 390,000, and its age pattern echoed that of the Science Museum, with under-25s recording the longest visit, at 60 minutes, notwithstanding its lower overall visitor numbers.
in contrast" と "echoed that of" という表現が、Art↔ScienceおよびHistory↔Natural Historyという2組の対比構造を明示し、Body 1とBody 2が並行した構成になっていることを読み手に伝えている。
- did not always align — 2つの指標(来館者数と関与度)が一致しないことを示す簡潔な表現
- the highest figure recorded for any age group at any museum — 16個のセルの中での最上位を、数値を出さずに強調する表現
- "despite ranking only second in overall visitor numbers, the Science Museum recorded the longest average visit..."
- "visit duration there rose steadily with age, from 45 minutes among under-25s to 95 minutes among those aged 60 and over" — from X to Y構文による範囲表現
- "its age pattern echoed that of the Science Museum...notwithstanding its lower overall visitor numbers" — 代名詞 that of による反復回避+分詞句による譲歩の追加情報
- "indicating that popularity and engagement with younger visitors did not always align" — 分詞構文による結論の提示(Overviewの締めくくりに使用)
