Day 150(Mixed Conditionals)→ Day 157(Subjunctive Mood)と文法の強化が続いた Phase 4 Speaking で、今日から初めて発音(Pronunciation)の軸に入ります。
| t d | 脱落する音 | last night |
| Band | Pronunciation
Band 9 の原文から1文だけ引用します: "Flexible use of features of connected speech is sustained throughout."
Band 6 で名指しされている弱点は stress-timing(強い音節がほぼ等間隔に来る英語のリズム)の欠如です。
|---|---|---|
| A. Connected speech | 採用 | Day 157 で予告済み。
題材は Travel & Tourism(Day 094 以来の2周目)。
Connected speech
| ③ 機能語の弱形 | to /tə/, of /əv/, and /ən/, for /fə/ | 使う | stress-timing の土台。

So... on... balance..."
"Right, let me think... The trip that springs to mind is [場所], which turned‿out to be quite different from what I'd planned."
"The idea was to [予定]. But the whole thing went wrong almost immediately — [何が起きたか], so I ended‿up [代わりにしたこと]."
"As for how I dealt with it, honestly, I just had to go with the flow."
"What I learned from it is that [教訓] — and I'd say it's essential that‿anyone [原形] ..."
"So, in‿a way, it was a bit‿of‿a blessing‿in disguise."
Yeah, I really do. I think‿it's mainly because‿it gets me‿jout‿of my usual routine — when I'm‿in‿a new place, I notice‿a lot more than I do‿wat home.
Mostly smaller cities, to be honest. I'm not really‿jinto big tourist attractions — I'd much rather wander‿raround‿an‿old neighbourhood and find somewhere the locals‿actually go to eat.
It really depends. With friends it's more fun, obviously, but travelling‿alone forces you to talk to people you'd never‿rotherwise meet, and I've found that's often the best part‿of the trip.
Definitely — I've wanted to go to Iceland ever since‿a friend showed me photos from her trip last year [ラースチア], and I'd love to see the Northern Lights‿at least once.
Right, let me think... The trip that springs to mind is a weekend I spent in Edinburgh about two years‿ago, which turned‿out to be quite different from what I'd planned.
The idea was to fly up‿on‿a Friday evening, see the castle‿on Saturday and head back‿on Sunday. But the whole thing went wrong almost‿immediately — my flight was cancelled because‿of‿a storm, and by the time I got to the‿jairport, every‿jother flight that night was fully booked. So I ended‿up taking‿an‿overnight train‿instead, which meant I‿jarrived‿at‿about six‿in the morning, completely‿jexhausted.
As for how I dealt with‿it, honestly, I just had to go with the flow. The castle was closed for most‿of Saturday because‿of the weather, so I spent the day wandering‿around the‿jold town and ducking‿into small cafés and bookshops I'd never‿rhave found‿otherwise.
What‿I learned from‿it, I think, is that the parts‿of‿a trip you can't control are often the‿jones you remember most. These days I deliberately leave‿a bit‿of‿empty time‿in my‿jitinerary — and I'd say it's essential that‿anyone travelling somewhere new do the same, rather than packing‿every hour. So, in‿a way, the storm was a bit‿of‿a blessing‿in disguise.
Well, I think‿it's partly‿jeconomic — budget‿airlines have made‿it far cheaper than‿it used to be. But I'd also say‿jit's cultural. I mean, a lot‿of what you [ウォッチュ] see‿jon social media is other people's travel photos, so there's this constant sense that you're missing‿out‿if you stay‿jat home. So‿won balance, it's a mix‿of cost‿and, well, peer pressure.
Now, this is where‿it gets complicated, because tourism obviously brings money‿in. That said, in places like Venice‿or Barcelona, rents have gone‿up so much that a lot‿of local people simply can't‿afford to live‿in the centre‿ranymore. And when‿a neighbourhood‿is full‿of short-term rentals, it kind‿of loses the very character that attracted visitors‿in the first place. So, ironically, overtourism can end‿up destroying what made‿a place worth visiting.
Honestly, I think some limits are probably necessary. It's vital that‿a city like Venice be‿jable to protect the people who actually live there, and I believe‿it has already experimented with charging day-trippers‿an‿entry fee. That said, a hard cap‿on numbers could easily hurt small businesses that depend‿on visitors. So, all‿in‿all, I'd lean towards pricing rather than‿outright bans.
Well, it's hard to say, but I suspect people will take fewer but longer trips — partly because‿of concerns‿about carbon‿emissions, and partly because remote work makes‿it possible to stay somewhere for‿ra month‿instead‿of‿a weekend. If flying gets much more‿rexpensive, I'd also‿wexpect‿a bit‿of‿a revival‿in rail travel, especially‿in Europe. So‿won balance, I think travel will become slower rather than less common.

|---|---|---|
| 1 | 機能語の弱形 | 一部(to/of/and/for/have/can のみ) |
