Day 165 — Speaking: Work & Technology × Connected Speech 2

#1 機能語の弱形一部(to / of / and / for / have / can のみ)主役。

A: Teams share files.teams / share / files = 33基準
B: The teams have been sharing the files.teams / sharing / files = 38

a / an/eɪ/ /æn//ə/ /ən/ほぼいつも1つだけ(one)と強調するとき
(THE answer)
to/tuː//tə/動詞の前(want to go)文末(What did you listen to?)
of/ɒv//əv/a lot of, one of the文末はまれ
and/ænd//ən/ /n/bread and butter強調・列挙の切れ目
for/fɔː//fə/for example文末(What is it for?)
from/frɒm//frəm/文中文末(Where are you from?)
at/æt//ət/文中文末(What are you looking at?)
was / were/wɒz/ /wɜː//wəz/ /wə/文中文末・短い返事(Yes, it was.)
have / has / had/hæv/ など/əv/ /əz/ /əd/助動詞(I could have gone)本動詞(I have a car)や文末の返事
can / could/kæn/ /kʊd//kən/ /kəd/肯定文の中否定(can't /kɑːnt/)・文末の返事(Yes, I can.)
would / will/wʊd/ /wɪl//wəd/ /əd/ /əl/文中(I'd, it'll)文末の返事
that(接続詞)/ðæt//ðət/I think that it's...
them / him / her / his/ðem/ /hɪm/ /hɜː/ /hɪz//ðəm/〜/əm/ /ɪm/ /ə/ /ɪz/文中で強調されないとき文頭・対比・強調

題材は Work & Technology(Day 160 は Travel)。have been working on, had to learn how to, it's one of the

  • Fluency & Coherence:
  • Lexical Resource: 技術・学習の語(pick up, get the hang of, steep learning curve)を使えているか
(I'd been saving)、Subjunctive Mood(Day 157。It's vital that a company provide...)
  • Pronunciation(今日の主役): 弱形を使い、強い語だけを強く言えているか。

B The teams have been sharing the files.

1. Part 2

最初の30秒で、弱形にすべき機能語(a / of / to / for / and / have ...)

文A Teams share files.(音節3)と文B The teams have been sharing the files.(音節8)を、それぞれ5回連続で録音し、全体の秒数を入れてください。

(I'd been ...ing, a couple of, one of the, how to)を先に決め、そこだけを10回声に出してから録音してください。
Part 3

Q1: What do you do — do you work or study?
MODEL

I work as‿a software developer‿rat‿a small company, mainly building‿internal tools. I‿jactually studied mechanical engineering‿at university, so it was‿a bit‿of‿a career change.

Q2: What do you like most about your work?
MODEL

Honestly, what‿I like most‿is the problem-solving. When‿a bug finally disappears‿after‿rhours‿of‿effort, it's one‿of the best feelings‿at work.

Q3: How often do you use computers or the internet in your daily life?
MODEL

Pretty much all day. I use‿a laptop for work, and‿I tend to look things up on my phone‿in the evenings‿as well.

Q4: Do you find it easy to learn new technology?
MODEL

It depends‿on the tool, really. If‿it's something practical, I usually pick‿it‿up quickly — but I‿jalways struggle if the documentation's poor.

MODEL(Band 7.5〜8.0)

Right, let me think... The tool that springs to mind is‿a version-control system called Git, which I‿jonly learned properly about three years‿ago, when I started my first proper job as‿a developer.

Before that, I'd been saving files with names like 'final', 'final two' and 'final, really' — which‿obviously stops working when five people are editing the same project. So my team lead showed me the basics, and I ended‿up spending a couple‿of weekends practising on‿a small project of my own.

The hard part was the vocabulary. Words like 'rebase' and 'cherry-pick' meant nothing to me at first, and I broke‿wour shared branch twice before I understood what I was doing. Luckily, my colleagues were very patient, and I‿jeventually realised that the best way to learn‿it was just to make mistakes somewhere safe.

Looking back, I'd say it's one‿of the most useful things I've ever learned‿at work, mainly because‿it changed how I think about mistakes. It's a bit‿of‿a safety net: you can always go back. So, in‿a way, learning‿it was less‿about the tool, and more about feeling‿able to try things.

Q1: Why do some people find it harder than others to learn new technology?
MODEL

Well, I think‿it's partly‿a matter‿of confidence. People who're afraid of breaking something tend to avoid experimenting, and experimenting‿is exactly how you learn. But I'd also say‿jit's about exposure — someone who grew‿up with‿a smartphone has simply had a lot more practice. So‿won balance, I'd say it's less about intelligence and more about fear and familiarity.

Q2: Should companies train their employees to use new tools, or should employees teach themselves?
MODEL

Honestly, I think it should be both. It's vital that‿a company provide proper training for anything critical, like security tools, because mistakes there can be costly. That said, you can't train people‿in‿everything, so‿wemployees do need‿a degree‿of‿independence. So, all‿in‿all, I'd lean towards training for the essentials and time to explore for the rest.

Q3: How has technology changed the way people work over the past few decades?
MODEL

Now, the biggest change, I think, is that work‿is no longer tied‿to‿a place. Thirty years‿ago you had to be‿in‿the office to do almost anything, whereas these days‿a lot‿of people collaborate across time zones. The downside is that the boundary between work and home has become much blurrier — many people feel they can never‿rentirely switch off.

Q4: Do you think artificial intelligence will change which skills are most valuable in the future?
MODEL

I'd say so, yes. If routine tasks become automated, then judgement and communication will probably matter‿reven more than they do now. That said, it's hard to predict, because‿I‿jimagine people‿in the 1990s‿also underestimated how much the internet would change things. So‿won balance, I think the skill that'll last‿is the ability to keep learning.

Fluency & Coherence

Before that / The hard part was / Looking back Part 3 は Day 143 の Discourse Markers(Well, / Now, / That said, / So, on balance,)を入口と出口に置く型を維持しています。

Lexical Resource(注目すべき表現)

  • "which obviously stops working when ..."
  • "a bit of a safety net" — 失敗を前向きに言い換える比喩
  • "judgement and communication" / "keep learning" — Part 3 の抽象語(Band 7 以上の語彙の幅)

Grammatical Range

  • Subjunctive Mood(Day 157): It's vital that a company provide proper training(provides
  • 仮定(現在): If routine tasks become automated, then judgement ... will matter even more — 現実的な条件文

Pronunciation(今日の主役)— リズムの分解

a cup of tea
I can swim.
What are you looking at?
